The Practical Course in Biochemistry for Joint Study Programme Animal Science is focused to the basic knowledge of biochemical methods used in medicine as the basis for understanding of metabolic processes in animal organism. It also serves as a basis for the application in determination of diagnostically important enzymes (LDH, α-amylase, etc.) and other indicators of saccharide, lipid, protein metabolism (glucose, cholesterol, lipids, total protein, albumin, etc.). The emphasis is paid on organ (functional) biochemistry with the special focus on the biochemistry of liver, kidneys, blood, bone and muscle. In the frame of functional biochemistry knowledge is applied on determination of tissue-specific enzymes (e.g. creatine kinase, alanine aminotransferase, γ-glumatyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase). Topics are focused to determination of other indicators of damage to the organs or tissues including urea, hemoglobin, iron, etc.
